There is a conversation that should be happening at the highest levels of the artificial intelligence industry, and it is not happening loudly enough.
Universal basic income.
The companies leading the AI revolution have built some of the most powerful systems in human history. These systems are not created in a vacuum. They are trained on vast amounts of human knowledge, creativity, language, art, and labor that have been generated by millions of people over generations.
Humanity is not just a user of AI. Humanity is the source material.
That truth carries responsibility.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently predicted, “AI will wipe out 50% of entry-level lawyers, consultants, and finance professionals within the next 12 months”
At the same time, the very technologies these companies are advancing are beginning to displace jobs across industries. From writers to designers to customer service representatives to analysts, the shift is already underway. This is not theoretical. This is happening now, and it will accelerate.
We are entering a moment where productivity and profit can increase while human labor is reduced. That creates a fundamental question.
If machines are doing more of the work, how do humans continue to participate in the economy?
This is where universal basic income becomes not just an idea, but a necessary evolution.
AI companies are uniquely positioned to lead this conversation for several reasons.
First, their systems are built on collective human contribution. There is an ethical argument that the value created by these systems should, in some form, flow back to the people whose data and creativity made them possible.
Second, their technologies are directly contributing to workforce disruption. With that disruption comes a responsibility to help shape the safety nets of the future.
Third, their financial scale is unprecedented. Many of these companies now rival the GDP of entire nations. They have the resources, influence, and global reach to pilot programs, fund research, and advocate for policy at a level few others can.
This is not about charity. It is about structural evolution.
Universal basic income has the potential to provide stability during a period of massive transition. It can give people the freedom to retrain, to create, to care for their families, and to participate in society in new ways as traditional employment shifts.

And importantly, it can help ensure that the benefits of AI are shared more broadly, rather than concentrated among a small number of corporations and stakeholders.
But while we push for systemic change, we must also prepare individually.
Here are a few ways to future-proof your life in the age of AI:
Build human-centric skills
Focus on what AI cannot easily replicate. Emotional intelligence, leadership, creativity, intuition, and the ability to connect deeply with others will only become more valuable.Learn how to work with AI
Do not compete with it. Collaborate with it. Understanding how to use AI tools effectively will amplify your capabilities and keep you relevant in a rapidly changing landscape.Diversify your income streams
Relying on a single source of income is becoming increasingly risky. Explore multiple avenues such as consulting, digital products, investments, or creative ventures.Invest in continuous learning
The pace of change is accelerating. Make learning a lifelong habit. Stay curious, stay adaptable, and stay open to reinvention.Strengthen your personal brand
Your unique voice, perspective, and story matter. Build a presence that reflects who you are and what you stand for. Authenticity will stand out in a world of automation.Prioritize community and collaboration
The future will not be built alone. Surround yourself with forward-thinking, values-driven people. Community creates resilience.

We are standing at the edge of one of the most significant shifts in human history.
AI can either deepen inequality or help usher in a more equitable and abundant world.
The difference will come down to the choices we make now, both as individuals and as a society.
It is time for the companies shaping the future to also take responsibility for sustaining it.
And it is time for all of us to be ready.
With love,
Cynthia
