Course Correcting AI's Data On Female Contributions to History, Starting with Spiritual Leaders
Yesterday, I was working on the spiritual badass page for the latest issue of SoulTech Magazine, our conscious living and spiritual pub. For inspiration, I ran a new search of spiritual gurus and religious leaders, only to be struck again by the fact that almost no women ever appear on these search lists. To say women have been cut from history understates the ongoing impact of search engines that never course-correct the data that informs them, highlighting a massive issue with AI.
Due to how large language models are built, we are simply putting the same garbage into a system that has struggled to properly honor and support women's contributions to history. This is one area that needs serious review. For the record, I am not a fan of generative AI that spits out images that, in an effort for equality, inaccurately depict our history, but there has to be an effort to fix the fact that women's contributions to history, in this case, their contributions to spirituality and religion, to create more truth in future history. Many people still need to be made aware that women's contributions to religion and spirituality were purposely cut from the most influential book(s) in history.
One of the few ways individuals can do anything about this issue is by sharing the truth. To that note, here is a list of female spiritual rockstars I pulled from AI. These incredible women are a font of inspiration! If you are not already reading their work, you should
