From Aliases to Authenticity: How Burnout Led Me Back to My Real Name at Fifty

Five years ago, I hit a wall so profound it felt like the ground beneath my feet cracked open. Decades of masking - who I was, where I’d come from, the parts of me I kept hidden for survival - finally caught up. The burnout was epic, all-consuming, and, in hindsight, the greatest gift of my life.

It forced me into a deep healing and spiritual journey that stripped away everything that wasn’t mine. Along the way, I stepped into a new identity that would become a bridge to my truest self: Shaman Isis.

The Avatar That Saved Me

Shaman Isis wasn’t just a pen name or a spiritual brand. She was an avatar I desperately needed. After a lifetime on the run from human traffickers who had taken my sister and threatened my own life, I had never truly lived under my given name. Cynthia L. Elliott was the name on my birth certificate, but it hadn’t been mine in any real sense for over thirty years.

In college, I went on the run and started using aliases. Later I married and took my husband’s name. Even after our divorce fifteen years ago, I kept that married name—hiding in plain sight, always performing safety, always protecting the fragile peace I’d built. By the time burnout arrived, I was fifty years old and had never publicly lived as Cynthia L. Elliott.

Shaman Isis gave me permission to emerge. Through her, I could share the wisdom I was gathering—ancient teachings, energy work, shadow integration, sacred geometry, the blending of science and soul—without the terror that had kept the real me locked away. Memory Mansion: The Rooms That Held Me

I wrote about this wild journey in my memoir, Memory Mansion. As a child in the orphanage and foster care system, I built an internal palace in my mind—room after room where I stored memories too heavy, too dangerous, or too beautiful to carry in the open. That mansion kept me alive. Writing the book was like walking through those rooms with a lantern, deciding what to keep, what to release, and what to finally claim as mine.

Coming home to my real name felt like walking out of that mansion into daylight. It was terrifying. It was liberating. It was the moment I stopped running and started becoming.

They can be incredibly adventurous and profoundly safe containers for growth. They give you space to experiment, to speak truths you couldn’t voice otherwise, to heal without the weight of your past staring back at you from every document or social profile.

I see so many women (and men) trapped in identities that were assigned to them by trauma, family expectations, marriages, careers, or survival strategies. If that’s you, know this:

Burnout can be the beginning, not the end.
The avatar you create might be the bridge to your most authentic self.
When you’re ready, you can lay the avatar down and step fully into who you are now.
And you never, ever need permission to do it.

The journey from hiding to wholeness is rarely linear. It’s messy, sacred, and worth every tear, every identity shift, every brave post under a new name. My path led me from aliases forged in fear, through Shaman Isis forged in healing, to Cynthia L. Elliott—finally spoken aloud, finally lived in public.

Where I Am Now

Today I carry all of it. The survival aliases taught me resilience. Shaman Isis taught me how to channel wisdom and hold space for transformation. And Cynthia L. Elliott? She’s the one speaking to you, building the SoulTech movement, producing events like the Her Health Summit, and continuing to blend ancient wisdom with modern tools so that others can awaken faster and safer than I did.

Why the “Women Don’t Need to Vote” Trend Is a Psyop, Not a Movement

I need to talk to you about something that has been circulating in social media with the kind of manufactured momentum that should make every conscious woman’s discernment radar go off like a five-alarm fire.

Women are appearing at conferences, most recently at the political organization turned psyop called Turning Point USA’s Women’s Leadership Summit in San Antonio, publicly stating they would be “okay” giving up their right to vote because their husbands represent them well enough. Guess someone on their team forgot to look up the word leadership in the dictionary. Some women are going further, suggesting they would willingly surrender that right for their daughters too.

I want to be very clear: I do not believe this is a grassroots moment. I believe it is a constructed narrative. And I am going to explain exactly why, and why it matters at the level of the soul.

First: What Is Actually Happening Here?

Let me name the architecture of what we are witnessing.

When a “trend” emerges that is remarkably convenient for one ideological power structure, emerges suddenly, gets amplified by a coordinated media ecosystem, and asks women to voluntarily dismantle their own civil rights, that is not a movement born from the hearts of free women. That is a psyop wearing a modest dress and a scripture verse.

The playbook is not new. It has a name: manufactured consent. You take a fringe belief, you platform a handful of women willing to voice it, you flood the algorithm, and suddenly it looks like a groundswell. It is the same technique used to make people believe things that serve the powerful are actually the natural desires of the powerless.

What these conferences and media moments are doing is not celebrating traditional values. They are beta-testing public tolerance for the erosion of women’s suffrage. They are seeing how far the Overton window can be pushed before enough people push back.

When pastors are openly calling for the repeal of the 19th Amendment, not in the shadows, but in published essays and podcasts, and framing women’s votes as the cause of national decline, we are not talking about theology. We are talking about political strategy dressed in the language of God.

I am a woman of deep faith. And I will tell you plainly: The creator did not give women consciousness, discernment, and a moral compass so that they could ceremonially hand their civic voice to someone else.

The Historical Amnesia Is Breathtaking

Women were not given the right to vote in 1920 because men decided to be generous. It was won through decades of organized resistance, arrests, hunger strikes, public ridicule, and in many cases, the destruction of reputations and livelihoods. The women who fought for suffrage were called abhorrent, indecent, and ridiculous. The cartoons mocking them look almost identical in spirit to the memes mocking women’s autonomy today.

The arguments against women voting have not evolved much either. Then: “women belong in the domestic sphere.” Now: “my husband votes for both of us, we are one flesh.” The wrapper is softer. The content is identical.

What is particularly instructive is that today, in 2026, the only countries where women cannot effectively vote are Afghanistan under Taliban rule, Eritrea, and Vatican City. Let that land. When you model your civic philosophy on governance structures that include Taliban Afghanistan, you have taken a wrong turn somewhere between Sunday service and civic responsibility.

The China Mirror: What Happens When You Manipulate Women Out of Agency

I want to draw a parallel that I think is critically underexamined.

China spent decades enforcing the one-child policy, a state-controlled reproductive mandate that, in practice, frequently led to the devaluation of female children, forced abortions, and the systematic suppression of women’s bodily sovereignty. The long-term result? A catastrophic demographic collapse, a deeply distorted gender ratio, and - here is the part nobody talks about enough - women who pulled further away from state-endorsed social participation because the state had made clear it did not value them as full human beings.

When you use policy or cultural pressure to manipulate women into shrinking, into giving up rights, reducing themselves, defining their worth through their proximity to a man, you do not create a more stable society. You create a profoundly destabilized one. Women are not a demographic variable to be managed. They are the moral and generative center of civilization. You cannot suppress that without consequence.

The forces pushing this “women should give up their vote” narrative are making the same category error China made: believing that women’s power is something to be controlled rather than cultivated. History has consistently proven that to be a civilization-level mistake.

The False Equivalence That Gets Women Caught in the Middle

I want to address something directly, because I believe in speaking hard truths with love.

There is a pattern in which women, particularly women of faith, feel forced to choose between two kinds of extremism. On one side, ideological movements that have, in their most radical expressions, pressured women and families around irreversible decisions about their children under the banner of progressive values. On the other, movements that use the language of tradition and scripture to convince women that their autonomy is a threat to everything they love.

Beautiful souls, neither extreme serves you. Neither extreme sees you as a full human being. Both are using you as a proxy for a cultural war in which your actual inner life, your discernment, and your sovereignty are inconvenient to the narrative.

The answer to one harmful extreme is never the opposite harmful extreme. The answer is consciousness. The answer is women who are awake enough to see when they are being played, from any direction.

Why Women’s Votes Are Not Just Important, They Are Sacred

Let me be precise about what women’s civic participation has actually produced.

Women entering the electorate has historically correlated with increased investment in public health, education, and child welfare. Not because women are a monolith, we are not; we vote in every direction, but because when the full human population participates in governance, governance tends to more fully reflect the needs of the full human population. That is not a radical idea. That is arithmetic.

Women’s votes have been credited with policy shifts toward cleaner environments, stronger social safety nets, and greater accountability in public institutions. None of those outcomes are partisan. They are civilizational.

And here is the deeper truth: a woman who surrenders her vote does not become more protected. She becomes more dependent on the protection remaining available, which is a thing power structures can always choose to withdraw. Rights you do not exercise atrophy. Rights you hand back voluntarily rarely come back.

What Conscious Women Do Instead

I am not here to tell you how to vote. I am here to tell you to vote.

I am here to tell you to think. To question the origin of every “trend” that asks you to make yourself smaller. To ask who benefits when women disengage from civic life. To notice when the language of devotion is being weaponized to manufacture compliance.

Conscious women ask: Who is funding this? Whose agenda does my surrender serve? What does history tell me about what happens when women stop participating?

Conscious women also refuse the false binary. You can love your faith and vote your conscience. You can honor your marriage and hold your own civic identity. You can believe in the sanctity of family and recognize that a family is not a political unit, it is a sacred bond between sovereign human beings who each bring their full selves to the world.

Your vote is not a weapon against your husband. It is a voice for your values. Those two things can coexist beautifully.

A Final Word to the Beautiful Souls

I came from nothing, an orphanage, the foster care system, a world that did not promise me anything. What I know in my bones is that every right worth having was purchased at enormous cost by someone who came before us. And every right that gets quietly surrendered is a door that closes a little more on the generations coming after us.

Your daughters are watching. Not just watching what you vote- watching whether you believe your voice is worth using.

The most spiritually advanced act you can perform in a world that is asking you to disappear is to remain fully, unapologetically present.

That includes at the ballot box.

This is SoulTech. Human consciousness is the technology that cannot be hacked, manufactured, or psyop’d away - unless we let it.

When God Left the Building and the Algorithm Moved In

What happens to a society that lost its religion and replaced it with politics

Beautiful souls, I need to talk to you about something that has been sitting heavy on my spirit for a while now.

Something broke in this country. Not recently. It has been breaking for decades, quietly, beneath the noise. And now we are all living inside the wreckage, arguing about who lit the match while the house burns around us.

Here is what I believe happened: organized religion collapsed as a unifying framework for tens of millions of people. Church attendance fell. Trust in institutions evaporated. The rituals, the community, the shared moral language, the sense of belonging to something larger than yourself, all of it went into rapid decline. And human beings, because we are wired for meaning and tribe, went looking for a replacement.

They found politics.

And I do not mean voting. I do not mean civic engagement. I am not talking about showing up to a town hall or writing your representative. I mean the full spiritual migration. The wholesale transfer of religious devotion into political identity. The conversion of policy positions into moral absolutes. The transformation of the opposing voter into a heretic.

This is not a Democrat problem. This is not a Republican problem. This is a human problem. And until we name it honestly, we cannot begin to heal it.

The Personality Replacement

Watch what happens when you try to have a nuanced conversation with someone whose entire identity has been consumed by their political tribe. You are not talking to a person with a perspective. You are talking to a doctrine with a face.

Critical thinking requires the ability to hold two contradictory things at once, to say “I agree with you here and disagree with you there,” to change your mind when new information arrives. None of that is possible when your politics have become your religion, because religions do not negotiate their core texts. They defend them.

The philosopher Eric Hoffer wrote about this in 1951 in “The True Believer,” and his observations are almost unbearably relevant right now. Mass movements, he argued, are attractive precisely to people who feel their individual lives lack meaning or worth. The movement gives them identity, purpose, enemies, and belonging. Sound familiar?

When your politics are your personality, you are not engaged in governance. You are engaged in a spiritual crisis you have not yet recognized as one.

Borrowed Suffering as Social Currency

Something else happened alongside the identity collapse, and this one is more uncomfortable to name.

Social media created an economy of outrage. And outrage, it turned out, was most valuable when it was loudest, most urgent, and most personal. So people began adopting causes not because they had lived experience with the suffering, but because the suffering gave them access to moral authority.

I am not saying compassion is fake. I am saying that in an attention economy, there is a meaningful difference between someone who has actually been affected by a crisis and someone performing crisis-adjacency for clout. And the performance, over time, crowds out the people with actual skin in the game.

The communities I work with through SoulTech Foundation, underserved people navigating the very real displacement happening in the age of AI, do not have the luxury of making their pain aesthetic. Their suffering is not a content strategy. And they deserve advocates, not actors.

The Conversation That Cannot Happen

Perhaps the most dangerous consequence of politics-as-religion is what it has done to our collective ability to problem-solve.

We have real challenges in this country. Challenges that require serious, sustained, uncomfortable conversation across lines of difference. Challenges around technology and labor displacement. Around healthcare access. Around mental health and community dissolution. Around what it means to build a good life in a world moving this fast.

But try to have that conversation in public today. The moment you name a problem, someone assigns it to a team. The moment you propose a solution, someone weaponizes it. What should be a civic exercise in collective intelligence becomes a performance of tribal loyalty, and nothing gets solved.

This is not an accident. It is a feature.

Because the people who benefit most from your outrage are the ones who have already secured their position regardless of which team wins. The donor class on the left. The donor class on the right. The media companies that profit from your rage. The algorithm that feeds you what makes you angrier because anger keeps you scrolling.

You are not a citizen participating in democracy. In this framework, you are a product being monetized by your own indignation.

The Framework We Are Missing

Here is the uncomfortable spiritual truth underneath all of this: the void left by organized religion’s decline was never going to stay empty. Something always fills the vacuum of meaning.

The question is whether what fills it makes you more free or less free. More connected to your own wisdom or more dependent on someone else’s outrage machine.

I have spent years developing what I call SoulTech, a framework for navigating the age of artificial intelligence from a place of higher consciousness rather than fear and reactivity. It is built on the premise that technology is not the threat and politics is not the salvation. The real work is internal. It always has been.

And that work is being systematically undermined by systems that profit from keeping us fragmented, reactive, and spiritually homeless.

What You Can Actually Do

These are not easy suggestions. They require practice. But they are the ones worth making.

Audit your information diet with the same seriousness you give your physical diet. You would not eat something that made you sick every single day. Stop consuming media that consistently leaves you agitated, contemptuous, and convinced that the other half of the country is your enemy. That is not information. That is programming.

Separate the performance from the policy. When something sends you into an immediate emotional spiral, pause before sharing it, acting on it, or building your week around it. Ask: does this affect my actual life, or is this designed to make me feel like it does? There is a difference between a real threat and a theatrical one, and the people running the machine are very good at blurring that line.

Find your spiritual home outside of politics. This does not have to mean returning to organized religion. It means finding a practice, a community, a set of values that anchor you to something permanent in the middle of what is very much impermanent. Meditation. Movement. Art. Service. The practices that connect you to yourself connect you to something that cannot be taken away in an election cycle.

Talk to one person you disagree with, for real. Not to convert them. Not to defeat them. To understand how another human being arrived at their worldview. This is the most radical act available to you right now, and it is also the most ancient. It is what community actually looks like.

Protect your sense of agency. The theology of political religion requires you to feel either heroic or victimized, usually both at the same time. Both states make you easy to manipulate. The antidote is to identify what you can actually influence in your immediate world and do that, consistently, without waiting for the national narrative to give you permission.

Remember that the people in power, on all sides, are not confused. They know exactly what they are doing. Your job is to know what you are doing too.

We are in a crisis of meaning. I believe that with my whole spirit. And I also believe that meaning cannot be delivered to you by a party platform or a cable news host or a social media feed. It has to be built, inside you, from the ground up.

That is the work. It has always been the work.

And it is worth doing.
