Triggers Are Not the Villain, They Are the Assignment

Let me take you back to 2019, when life lovingly grabbed me by the shoulders, shook me like a martini, and said, “We’re done with the performance. Time to heal.”

I wish I could tell you I floated gracefully into my spiritual awakening, draped in white linen, sipping green juice, whispering affirmations.

No.

I came kicking and screaming, clutching my emotional baggage like it was a designer handbag I couldn’t return.

Because here is the truth no one tells you about growth.
It does not start with bliss.
It starts with being deeply, inconveniently triggered.

And not cute triggered. Not “I need a bubble bath” triggered. I am talking about the kind of triggered where someone says one sentence and suddenly you are mentally writing their obituary.

That kind.

The Day I Realized I Was Not Spiritually Advanced

Somewhere along my journey, I discovered the Map of Consciousness and thought, “This will confirm I am basically enlightened.”

I was not.

I was down there. Basement level. Living in fear, guilt, and emotional chaos like it was a timeshare I forgot to cancel.

Humbling.

But also liberating.

Because once you realize you are not reacting to life, you are reacting to your conditioning, everything changes.

And that is where triggers become gold.

What a Trigger Actually Is (Spoiler: It Is Not About Them)

A trigger is not about the person who cut you off in traffic, ignored your text, or questioned your brilliance in a meeting.

A trigger is your nervous system saying, “Ah yes, this reminds me of unresolved business from 1997. Let’s overreact.”

Your emotional habits were built over years of experiences, like a vintage wine you did not exactly choose.

And here is the kicker:

Your thoughts create your mental state.
Your mental state creates your emotional state.
And your emotional state becomes your reality.

So if your reality feels like chaos, we are not fixing the world.
We are retraining the inner narrator.

The Five Minute Glow Up (Yes, Even Mid Meltdown)

From my Five Minutes to Emotional Mastery method, here is how you stop a trigger from hijacking your entire personality.

1. Pause Like a Queen or King

Not everything requires an immediate reaction.

Excuse yourself. Step away. Go to the bathroom if you must. Some of your best breakthroughs will happen in a stall, let’s be honest.

2. Breathe Like Your Sanity Depends On It

Take ten slow, deep breaths.

Not the dramatic sighs you do when someone annoys you.
Actual intentional breathing.

This interrupts the emotional spiral.

3. Congratulate Yourself

You did not snap. You did not send the text. You did not burn the bridge.

Growth.

4. Ask the Hard Question

“What is this really about?”

Not the surface irritation. The root.

Is this about rejection, control, or not feeling seen?

5. Check Your Thought Patterns

Are you spiraling, replaying, or catastrophizing?

Your brain loves a dramatic storyline. It deserves better writing.

6. Come Back to the Present

Are you reacting to this moment, or dragging your entire past into it like a messy ex?

7. Realign

Choose a different thought.

Not toxic positivity. Just something slightly less unhinged.

8. Make a Note for Later

Some triggers require deeper work. Journal it. Process it. Heal it properly.

9. Add Gratitude

Gratitude shifts your state faster than almost anything.

Even if it is just, “At least I did not ruin my life today.”

10. Practice

Emotional mastery is not a personality trait. It is a workout.

And like any workout, you will not look like a fitness influencer on day one.

Triggers Are the Portal, Not the Problem

Here is the reframe that changed everything for me:

Triggers are not interruptions to your growth. They are the path to your growth.

Every time you get triggered, you are being shown:

Where you are still wounded
Where your ego is still in charge
Where your power is leaking out

And every time you choose to respond instead of react, you take that power back.

The Real Glow Up

My glow up did not come from changing my wardrobe, my environment, or my external life first.

It came from mastering my internal reactions.

From realizing that nothing outside of me has power over my emotional state unless I hand it over.

And I used to hand it over like free samples at Costco.

Now, you are going to have to work a lot harder to get a reaction out of me.

Although, if I am being frank, tech issues, stupid politicians, and injustice sometimes require me to go through the above process.

Final Thought

The next time you feel triggered, do not ask:

“Why is this happening to me?”

Ask:

“What is this here to teach me?”

Because that moment, right there, is where your next level lives.

And yes, it is inconvenient. And yes, it is uncomfortable.

But so is staying the same.

You Are the Magic You Keep Looking For

When I was a child, I used to climb to the top of the tallest building I could find.

Not metaphorically. Physically.

Fire escapes, ledges, anything I could grip. Sometimes full parkour style before I even knew there was a name for it. Yes, I was a little wild. Yes, it was probably a terrible idea. And no, I would absolutely do it again.

I would get to the top, lie flat on my back, and stare into the night sky.

And I would ask questions that had no business living in a child’s mind.

What is a star?
Where does space end?
Are the aliens here already?

The kind of questions that don’t gently tap at your mind. They grab it. Stretch it. Sometimes nearly break it.

There were nights I would feel so small, so suspended in the vastness of it all, that it bordered on madness.

And yet… I kept going back.

Because somewhere between the fear and the wonder, something in me knew the truth long before I had language for it.

This world is not normal.

It never was.

We just forgot how to see it.

And perhaps even more importantly…

We forgot how to see ourselves inside of it.

We live on a planet that is quietly, relentlessly magical, even when we insist on reducing it to data points and deadlines.

Beneath our feet, forests are not silent. They are in conversation.

Trees communicate through vast underground networks, sharing nutrients, warning one another of danger, even protecting their own offspring. A mother tree will send resources to her saplings growing in the shadows, making sure they have a chance to rise.

There are beings rooted to the Earth… practicing a kind of devotion many humans are still learning to remember.

And then there is the ocean, that ancient, breathing mystery.

Out in its depths, whales are composing songs that travel for miles, evolving over time like a living symphony. Dolphins carry names in the form of unique whistles, calling to one another across distance, remembering, recognizing.

Identity as vibration.

Connection as resonance.

And here we are, pretending we are separate from it all.

On land, horses read the truth of us with startling precision. Not what we say, but what we are. Our nervous system becomes a signal. Our breath, our energy, our coherence… or lack of it.

Which raises a fascinating question.

If they can read us that clearly… what are we constantly broadcasting?

Even the air participates in this quiet orchestration.

Right before rain falls, the Earth releases that unmistakable scent. Petrichor. A signal carried on the wind that something is about to shift.

The planet doesn’t just exist.

You can feel another person’s pain without a single word being spoken. Your heart is capable of extending beyond the boundaries of your own body.

You can take breath unconsciously for your entire life… and then, in a single moment, become aware of it and change your state, your chemistry, your experience.

You are walking around with the ability to regulate your own nervous system, alter your perception, and shift your consciousness… and most people were never taught how extraordinary that is.

Your body heals wounds you never consciously manage. Your brain rewires itself based on what you focus on. Your presence alone can calm a room… or disrupt it.

You are not just alive.

You are participating.

You are not just observing the magic.

You are generating it.

So the question is not whether magic exists.

The question is whether you are present enough to experience it.

Because this is where everything begins to change.

When you remember that the planet is alive, communicating, responsive… and that you are a conscious, creative force within it… something in you settles and expands at the same time.

You stop grasping.

You start noticing.

You move from reaction… into awareness.

The Quiet Crisis Killing Women, And Why We’re Done Waiting

There is a quiet crisis happening in this country.

It doesn’t make headlines.
It doesn’t trend on social media.
And it certainly isn’t being taken seriously in exam rooms across America.

It is the systematic dismissal of women’s health.

And I know this not as theory—but as lived truth.

For ten years, I was told my pain was something else. Stress. Anxiety. Overreaction. Maybe even imagination.
Ten years—until I was finally diagnosed with eleven hernias.

Eleven.

Let that sink in.

Not one doctor thought to look deeper. Not one paused long enough to ask, “What if she’s right?”

And I am not alone.

The Pattern We’re Not Allowed to Name

Women are being gaslit by the very system designed to care for them.

Pain is minimized.
Hormones are misunderstood.
Perimenopause and menopause—phases that affect every single woman—are rarely discussed proactively in medical settings.

Not once, not a single time, did a doctor bring up perimenopause or menopause to me.

Not once.

And yet these are life-altering biological transitions that impact everything from mental health to cardiovascular risk to bone density to cognitive clarity.

Instead, women are handed prescriptions for anxiety.
Or told to “reduce stress.”
Or worse—dismissed entirely.

The truth in women’s health:

Pain is very often outright dismissed or under medicated
It takes 3x as long for a women to be diagnosed for the same issue as a man
Hormones are gravely misunderstood
Menopause is ignored or whispered about
Women pay more for the same services as a man (the pink tax)
And women’s health remains vastly under-researched

This isn’t a gap.

It’s a failure. Women are dying because of it! Or, they will lose years of their life or spend years of their life in bad health.

The Funding Gap That Should Shock You

Here’s a number that should make everyone uncomfortable:

Only a tiny fraction of healthcare research funding is dedicated to women—particularly women over 40.

Just one percent of healthcare research funding is spent on women over 40!

One.

Percent.

That number “leaps” to 5% globally! Oh, yippee. A whole 5%! For the population that will spend nearly half their lives in post-reproductive health stages. We give birth, have our period, experience menopause, and live longer then men. But somehow the still don’t care to treat our health as of equal value.

We are not a niche demographic.
We are half the population.

And yet, we are treated like an afterthought.

When It Becomes Personal

For me, this isn’t just about misdiagnosis.

It’s about loss.

I lost my mother.
I lost my sister.

To a healthcare system that too often dismisses women’s experiences until it is too late.

So this is not an intellectual conversation for me.
It is a line in the sand.

Because at some point, you stop asking:

“Why isn’t anyone fixing this?”

And you start asking:

“What am I going to do about it?”

We Are Done Waiting

We have waited for politicians.
We have waited for large healthcare institutions.
We have waited for funding bodies to care.

And what we’ve received is delay, deflection, and denial.

So we are done waiting.

Because this moment requires more than conversation.
